The History of Keystone High School

The first school house in the LaGrange area was a log cabin built in 1828. The building was 12 feet square, had a wooden door that hung from leather hinges and was heated by a fireplace. In 1869, Union School, a two-story brick building was built at a cost of $3,500 dollars, which would be $86,376 in today’s money. Union School was divided into 3 departments: primary (55 students), intermediate (24 students) and high school (44 students). It wasn’t until 1891 that the LaGrange High School was built on Liberty Street and in 1915, they added 4 more rooms to accommodate the influx of students from merging areas.

In 1924, an auditorium and stage were added so they could hold graduations. In 1959, LaGrange High School was renamed Keystone High School. In 1964, a major addition, which became the high school building for decades, was added. In 1979, a new section was built on the back which added many classrooms and created a new gymnasium for the middle school. This addition divided the high school and the middle school.

In 2002, the community passed a $17.5 million dollar bond issue. They broke ground in 2004 and by 2006, the students started school in the new high school at 531 Opportunity Way. A new football stadium shortly followed and in 2025, the new baseball stadium was built. The Keystone Local School Complex also includes the new middle school and elementary school.

Although the buildings have gone through multiple changes and many transformations, Wildcat Pride remains the same!
